A Lifetime of Experience

Weinstein & Weinstein was founded in 1929 by Irving Topf, a great uncle of the partners. The firm started off small and found its niche by helping small businesses in the wholesale produce industries of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The firm soon expanded and welcomed new partners, including Philip Weinstein, the father of the partners. Weinstein & Weinstein then began to provide services to the allied food industries, restaurants, bar & grills, grocery stores and, of course, individual tax returns.

The firm services a diversified group of clients, which include manufacturers, wholesalers, professionals, retailers, athletes, actors, and small businesses. The firm’s services also include not-for-profit audits for business improvement districts, family support organizations, performing arts, and homeowner associations.

In 1986, the firm moved from New York City to Teaneck, New Jersey, and soon welcomed Steven Weinstein and Debra Gomberg as its newest partners. We quickly expanded our family dynamic by including Anita Weinstein and Linda Weinstein as its office administrators, the mother of the partners, and Steven’s wife, respectively. In the 2021-2022 tax year, Weinstein & Weinstein opened its first satellite office in Westchester, New York.

Utilizing the experiences and foundation set forth by those who came before them, Steven and Debra continue to service a wide range of industries, giving their clients a true partner assisting them every step of the way. As you can see, here at Weinstein & Weinstein we’re not just an accounting firm, we’re a family affair.

In Regard to the Big Beautiful Bill

Some big tax changes are on the horizon, and I wanted to give you a clear breakdown of what’s inside this new “one big beautiful bill.”

Extra Help for Seniors (2025–2026)

  • Good news if you’re over 65 — you’ll get an extra deduction: - $6,000 if you file single - $12,000 if you file jointly This is in addition to the standard or itemized deduction. It starts phasing out once your income hits $75K (single) or $150K (joint).

SALT Deduction

  • Gets a Boost Remember the $10,000 cap on state & local tax deductions? - In 2025 & 2026, that limit jumps to $40,000. - But heads up: it goes back down to $10K in 2030. There’s also a phaseout for high earners (over $500K single / $250K separate).

Families & Kids

  • Child Tax Credit goes from $2,000 → $2,200 per child. - Dependent Care Credit (like daycare assistance) jumps from $5,000 → $7,500 ($2,500 → $3,750 if filing separately).

New Deductions for Workers

  • Tips: You can now deduct up to $25,000 of tips you report on your W-2. - Overtime: Deduct up to $12,500 (single) or $25,000 (joint). Both start phasing out once income hits $150K (single) / $300K (joint).

Car Loans & Education -

  • Car loans: Up to $10,000 of interest may be deductible (if the car was assembled in the U.S.). - Education: 529 plans now cover way more — including K-12 tuition, tutoring, AP/college test fees, and even special-ed therapies.

Other Odds & Ends

  • Gambling: Only 90% of losses deductible (and only up to winnings). - Charity: Up to $1,000 (single) / $2,000 (joint) without itemizing. - 1099 thresholds: Jump from $600 → $2,000 starting in 2026. - EV & clean energy credits are wrapping up in 2025/2026.

For Businesses

  • R&D; costs: Can be fully deducted in the year incurred. - Bonus depreciation: Back to 100%. - Section 179 depreciation: Limit raised from $1M → $2.5M. - Small business stock: New exclusion schedule (50% after 3 yrs, 75% after 4 yrs, 100% after 5 yrs). Lifetime gain cap bumps from $10M → $15M starting 2026.

Estate & Gift

  • The lifetime estate/gift exclusion will rise to $15M in 2026. Annual gift exclusion stays at $19K. That’s the gist! Lots of moving parts, but hopefully this makes it less overwhelming.
